The Strain Library

How to read a strain profile
Species and cultivar
Twenty of these are Psilocybe cubensis cultivars — separate lineages of one species, grown for a particular character. Three are Psilocybe natalensis, a different species. Cultivar names come from growers and the community, not from taxonomy, so the same lineage can carry another name elsewhere.
The strength rating
A relative score out of 10, comparing these strains only to each other. Across the library it runs from 6.5 to 9. It is not a lab figure and not a dose — the amount taken moves an experience far more than the rating does.
The effect words
Every profile draws from one shared vocabulary of fourteen words, so the same term means the same thing on every page. They describe what people commonly report — not outcomes anyone can promise you.

Where the 23 sit by strength
The same relative 1–10 score, laid out end to end. Half the library sits at 8 or above, so the spread is narrower than the numbers suggest — and the amount taken still moves an experience far more than the gap between any two of these.
- 9 / 10(5)
Albino Jedi Mind Fuck, Kraken, Mega Nat, Mutant Gates, Penis Envy 6
- 8.5 / 10(4)
- 8 / 10(8)
Albino Bluey Vuitton, Dontes Inferno, Ghost, Lucid Gates, Mini Mutant, MVP, Omni 43, Psi Nata
- 7.5 / 10(3)
- 7 / 10(2)
- 6.5 / 10(1)
The gentlest entry in the library is Hillbilly Pumpkin at 6.5/10. Worth saying plainly: this rating compares these strains to each other and nothing else. Potency varies from batch to batch even within one cultivar, and laboratory testing is the only dependable way to compare two mushrooms by number. Treat the score as a rough ordering, not a measurement.
Which effects travel together
Counted across all 23 profiles — the effect words that most often appear on the same strain.
- Creativity + Joy15 strains
- Clarity + Joy10 strains
- Connection + Joy10 strains
- Expansion + Joy10 strains
- Connection + Creativity9 strains
- Creativity + Expansion9 strains
The pattern is consistent: the library leans bright and social rather than heavy or introspective. If you are choosing by feel rather than by strength, those pairings are a more useful guide than the rating — a 9/10 described as calm and connected is a different evening from a 7/10 described as expansive.
One structural note: 3 of the 23 are Psilocybe natalensis rather than P. cubensis — Mega Nat, Natal Super Strain and Psi Nata. A different species, not a different cultivar of the same one, which is a bigger distinction than any two cubensis names on this page.

Questions about strains
What does the Topia strength rating mean?
It is a relative rating, not a lab measurement. Every strain in this library is scored against the others in our own catalog on a 10-point scale, and the range across all 23 runs from 6.5 to 9. A 9 is stronger than a 7 here, but the number does not translate to a dose, a potency figure, or a comparison against anything outside this list. Amount, batch, tolerance, setting, and the person all move the experience more than the rating does.
Are these actually different species, or just different names?
Mostly one species with many cultivars. Twenty of the 23 are Psilocybe cubensis cultivars — distinct lineages selectively grown for a particular character, the way apple varieties are all still apples. The remaining three are Psilocybe natalensis, a genuinely separate species. Cultivar names are grower and community names, not scientific classifications, which is why the same lineage can appear under different names elsewhere.
Do different strains really feel different?
Reported experiences do differ, and the character notes in this library reflect what people consistently report about each one. But strain is one variable among several, and rarely the biggest. Amount, your mindset, the people around you, the setting, sleep, and what you have eaten all shape an experience heavily. Treat a strain profile as a starting expectation, not a promise.
Which strain should someone start with?
Look at the lower end of the strength column and read the character line rather than chasing a number. Strains described as calm, balanced, bright, or approachable are the gentler introductions; ones described as deep, expansive, or liberating tend to be more demanding. If you are new, the amount you take and who you are with matter far more than which name you pick.
What is in the full member profile?
Each strain has a two-page encyclopedia entry covering the lower-intensity and higher-intensity ranges, who and what it suits, an educational note on the cultivar, and a gram-by-gram walkthrough from 1g to 7g and beyond. The free preview on each strain page shows species, strength, character, and the first two effects. Full entries unlock with your Topia orders.
